| I had heard about Republican Party Leaders in some areas being dead set against any conservatives being elected from the party. Well, Karl Rove put a face upon it last night on the Sean Hannity show when he totally trashed the Delaware Senatorial nominee Christine O'Donnell. And the Delaware Republican Committee may have decided to withhold any funding for her in the general election. Therefore:
- I call on Sean Hannity, and other conservative talk show hosts to make it an unspoken policy to not invite Karl Rove back on their shows.
- It may be time to donate whatever money, time etc. one decides to give to individual good candidates, rather than into state or national GOP party coffers.
- I guess we have two choices. Either totally take over the Republican party, or form a new Conservative party and let the GOP wither into a nonentity. At this point, I favor the former, but I certainly can understand any who feel the latter is the better strategy.
And closing with this, which was in my devotional reading for yesterday:
For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company. Ps 55:12-14.
Of course this found its ultimate expression in Judas' betrayal.

| We had the privilege yesterday of going down to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC to participate (for part of the time) in a national day of prayer and repentance for our country. Three observations:
1. There were fewer people than I had anticipated. I was also down on the mall 30 years ago for a day of prayer for our Nation (called Washington for Jesus), and it was massive. This, by comparison seemed very small. But between Elizabeth and I, we thought of three reasons not to be disappointed: - God promised Abraham that He would spare Sodom if there were only found 5 faithful in the city. - God twice told Gideon that he had too many soldiers, and finally conquered the Midianites with 300 men. - From "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" (movie): "Numbers do not win a battle. "
2. Right around this time, I have been reading Jeremiah 18. Verse 8 says: "If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them."
3. There was repentance for those things which are common issues today, e.g. abortion, but there was also repentance for other sins of our nation: slavery, racism, and mistreatment of the Native Americans.
| This Saturday, May 1, there is a large gathering at the Lincoln Memorial to seek God's face, humble ourselves, repent, and pray for forgiveness and cry out to Him. "But," one shall say, "of what do we need to repent?"
In the early 1900's we started to turn from our God, and a "firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence" to a reliance on government to provide for our needs. In doing so, we created an idol, not made of wood or stone, but made nonetheless. In doing so, we subtly started to turn from the protections that the founding fathers put into our Constitution against a too-powerful government - protections based on the Biblical understanding of man's fallen state.
As if that were not enough, in the early 60's we decided that God should no longer be allowed as part of most children's education in the government schools. This has regressed more and more to allow the open celebration of sin (for example homosexuality) and the demonization of those who speak against it - calling good evil and evil good. And it has led to the direct contradiction of the Bible (e.g. the creation) and the demand in the belief of things contrary to it.
And as if that were not enough, in the early 70's we introduced Moloch worship in the guise of abortion. Millions of babies have been killed.
And we have had abuse of power, immorality in the very seat of government, and corruption. And our hearts have grown cold toward God, and we have had itching ears for teachings which are not the real Gospel. Finally we have elected leaders who wants to complete the job started in the early 1900's, and make government the be all and end all, and who want to set it up as our national god, chafing at the "negative" constitutional restraints.
So we go on May 1st to humble ourselves before the only true God, and seek His face. I hope it is not too late.
| A prayer that in Iran, where a movement for political reform has blossomed, a Christian revival may break out. May the land of Cyrus, who was used by the true God to send the Israelites back into the land, turn to the the true Savior, Jesus Christ.

| The leader was deep in thought when the other entered the room. He seemed not to see his visitor for a few seconds, and then he stirred, and recognized him. "Welcome, Comrade Samuel." His guest looked at him quizzically. "You seemed to be preoccupied, my friend. Can I share your thoughts?" "Well, frankly, I am trying to think of what single program I can enact which will most further our goals. Time could be short, and we must make as much progress as we can." "Time may not be as short as you think. But, in any event, there's the health bill." "How do you mean, Sam" "Well to quote from my mentor, 'Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.' [1] Once you have control of the people's health, you will control the people." "Excellent. Thank you my friend. That takes a load off my mind." And the two walked out of the room, chatting amicably about less critical subjects.
